Why is it called Culdesac?
We call ourselves Culdesac because the first thing that word evokes, especially for people who grew up in suburbia in the 80s or 90s, is warmth, family, and home.
Culdesacs are the part of the neighborhood without cars, which makes it more safe. That makes the culdesac a place to play.
Culdesacs are also where the neighbors are more likely to know each other. For instance, my high school track relay team consisted of me and 3 teammates who all lived on the same culdesac. Another culdesac in my neighborhood threw a themed Halloween together.
It’s not a coincidence that culdesacs are the part of the subdivision that sells at a premium.
We also like that the name has depth, including irony. It is ironic because, on the one hand, we say everyone should be able to live in a Culdesac. On the other hand, subdivisions with culdesacs, and dendritic street networks in general, lead to less connected communities.
Overall, we love our name because it evokes the feeling we want people to get when they step foot in one of our neighborhoods.
